The Olympics
I am really uninspired by this Olympics. No one really had a performance that I found just jaw-dropping-amazing-and-stunningly-beautiful that I'll remember for years to come. A lot of the good skaters had bad programs or didn't deliver, and many other skaters are obviously talented, but still developing. I'm trying to figure out if I'm just getting more jaded and letting little mistakes ruin my enjoyment of the overall performance, or if the performances just haven't been as good lately. Am I just getting pickier now that I know more about the sport? Is the new scoring system killing creativity and eliminating those special programs? Are we just inbetween great skating moments? I'm not sure, but I'm definitely feeling a bit disenchanted with the sport right now.
On the positive side:
Matt: I'm so glad that he had 2 good performances. He brought tears to my eyes more than once. His choreo is so intricate, but he still has so much emotion. This is what the new judging system is supposed to reward.
Evan: His free program was one of the best programs in this entire Olymics. Good choreo and execution. It was nice to see someone skate with passion.
Lambiel: It's nice to see someone so happy about what he's accomplished even though he didn't get the gold.
Shen&Zhao: I'm so happy for them. They made an amazing come back.
Inoue&Baldwin: Probably my fav short program of these games. They put it all on the line and made it exciting to watch.
Emily: She's so happy and excited, it makes her so much fun to watch even if she doesn't have the polish of some of the top ladies.
Shizuka: I'm happy the gold medalist skated a well-rounded program. She did skate beautifully.
Fumie: One of the few skaters to put together 2 good performances. She just isn't as skilled artistically as the leading ladies and it kept her off of the program, but I was happy for her to skate well.
