Tuesday's Lesson 2/14

We did the mandatory jump work first.

Axel: I need to make sure that I don't drop my R side as I step up into the jump. And I need to add speed.

Double Salchow: I mess up every aspect of this jump. I drop my shoulder, drop my hip, pop. I think I managed to land 1. Coach K says that she does see improvement on the take-off though. I guess I just need some more practice time.

Then, Happy Valentine's Day to Me, we worked on moves! I LOVE novice moves. They still aren't great, but I could work on them all day and be happy.

Rocker-Choctaw sequence: Coach K likes my flow. I need to keep my knee straight and point the toe on my free leg when it's extended. We also changed the entrance to the pattern to a swing rocker instead of a 3turn-edge pull.

O/S and I/S Counters: Coach K says my edge quality is great!!! I was so happy to hear that. I could use more speed, and again, I have to hit the extensions a bit better.

Bracket-3-Bracket: Coach K says these look good. Just try to be a little quicker between the turns. I think she might have been on crack during my lesson. This is my least favorite of the novice moves.

So, now that Coach K has seen all of my Novice moves except the spiral pattern (always too many people to be doing back spirals across the rink), she thinks I'll be ready to test by the next session at dumpy rink in April. April!!! Once again, I questioned whether Coach K was on crack. My edges are good, but I still lack a lot of speed and power which are a secondary focus on most of the moves. I guess if I start practicing moves on every session, I could be ready. I don't know if I'll pass, but I don't think I'll embarass myself. I don't think sign-ups have started yet, so I have a little while to think about it. I also don't want to forget about testing my pre-juv. I'd like to get that done soon as well. I don't need novice moves to get to adult nationals. I do need my pre-juv and juv freeskates.
