Lesson 1/31
I need more practice time! Coach K has given me so much to work on, and I've only been skating the hour on Tue. morning (1/2hr of that is lesson) and Wed. night public(where it's all but impossible to jump). There are 2 more morning sessions that I can attend at the dumpy rink - Mon and Thur 5:30-6:30am. I'm going to have to start getting my lazy butt out of bed at 4:15am 3 days per week if I want to make any progress.
Today, I frustrated myself with jumps in my 1/2hr warm-up. My first axel was by far the best. Coach K had changed my take-off so that I didn't step so far out of the circle to jump. That helped reduce my skid on take-off. My first axel today had nice spring, and I could feel my legs stretch down with pointed toes in the air as I turned over my R hip to rotate. Couldn't repeat it though. As for double sals, I tried, but I just haven't had the practice time I need to adjust to all the technique changes Coach K has made. I feel that the technique is getting better, but it's not consistent yet. I got really aggravated b/c I kept popping.
Then it was lesson time. I told Coach K that I was frustrated with jumps, so she let me work on spins and moves!
Camel with FO edge: I get on a really nice flat. If you watch carefully on the senior ladies, most of them end up on a flat and not a nice FO edge in a big circle which makes me feel better. I still want the big FO edge circle though. I just can't seem to push myself the extra little bit.
Back Camel: Coach K reminded me not to drop my R shoulder on the entrance and to pull it up and back in the spin. I instantly gained speed.
Sit/Back Sit: Coach K told me to push my hips forward as I entered the sit spin, and it instantly fixed all of the skidding problems I'd been having. She also reminded me to push my shoulders down in the back sit. Apparently, I was pretty hunched. The back sit is low though!
Fratianne Spin: This will eventually be part of a sit/fratianne/back sit with arms and possible a torso twist. I'm already pretty good at the Fratianne Spin which looks something like this:

(Obviously not me - Thanks to yahoo images!)
Back Camel Layover with attitude leg position: Wow, that's a long title. This spin will need work, but is well within my capabilities. I start from a flying camel in regular position then twist my torso so it's sideways & bend my leg in an attitude position. I'll have to find a way to have someone video me or at least take a picture, because I can't find anything like this to post here. All I need to do to own this spin is keep my hips underneath me as I do the layover. I tend to let them sag which leads to a big droopy slow circle instead of a nice spin center.
Back Quick Rocker Turn Sequence: This was the only novice move we had time for. It must not have been too godawfulbad b/c Coach K only had a few corrections... On the swing rocker that sets up the end pattern, I should have my head over my leading shoulder (and my head should stay there during the pattern instead of wandering around like it's lost!). I also had to keep my feet closer together and push more down than out on the underpush. I also need to continue to focus on keeping my arms still although Coach K said this was less of a problem than I thought.
That was all for today. I really do need more practice time to put all of this to use.
Coach K also brought in music for my pre-juv program. She had about 12-15 pieces for me to choose from. Most of them are already cut (I told her it would be fine with me to reuse something). There are two by Vanessa Mae(sp?) that I like - fairly slow and very pretty. Then there's one that sounds a bit more folk dancy, but I think I could pull it off. I kind of like that one b/c it would push me a bit more. I'll give it a few days. I won't have to decide until next week's lesson.
