Are My Jumps Coming Back???
I went to the 6am mystery freestyle (listed on one schedule, but not the other) at the nice rink today. Again, I was the only person there. As an added bonus, the girl at the register recognized me from the daytime publics I used to skate and told me not to worry about paying since I had an annual pass and she hadn't turned on the computer/register yet. I know the annual pass isn't good for freestyles, but I wasn't going to complain.
So, what did I do with an hour of ice time all to myself? I stunk it up for about 30 min with my abysmal novice moves. I think these are deteriorating as I had only barely learned them when I stopped seeming my old coach. I have an awful tendency to pick up bad habits without constant correction from my coach. I'll have to have Coach K look at them next week.
I nailed some spins today though. I read on rssir that people use a RBI double 3turn as a spin entrance. I did my own variation of a deep RBI edge, LBI double 3, RBI double 3, spin. It worked pretty well although it could use more flow. From that entrance I nailed a scratch/back scratch which is on on of my upcoming freeskate tests. I'm also happy to report that my back sit is getting really comfortable again. I'm getting low with a terrific center.
As for jumps, I can feel improvement in my flip and loop which I worked on with Coach K this week. I actually did a really nice waltz jump today too. I've been working on getting more height/split in this jump. Axels were kinda funny, but landed. I even landed 3/4 double salchow attempts! I landed 2 double toes, 2 double loops, and 2 double flips. (These jumps didn't have such high success rates, but I fought through it and landed them.) I was really encouraged by my jumps this session. I hope they're finally coming back. I stayed on my feet except for 2 jumps which was a great improvement over the last few months where I fell on almost every attempt.
