No More Coaching
I resigned from my coaching job just after I got back from Nationals. I wasn't making much money doing it, and I was not being treated well by management. Although I enjoyed teaching, the politics involved were affecting my skating. I had started dreading going to the rink because I knew that I would have to deal with coaching issues.
Since I quit, I have changed rinks to the IcePlex. This is a new very new facility. It has beautiful views of the lake from the lobby, two ice surfaces, and it's much closer to my home. It is not incredibly well run, but at this point, I would rather deal with irregular ice cuts and people being late to open the building than rink politics.
Another bonus of skating at this rink is that the morning freestyles are deserted. I've had the place to myself several times in the week that I've been skating there. My coach is also a guest coach there, so we were able to easily move my lessons.
The bad news is that I will have to find another summer job since I won't be coaching. I'm planning on upping my skating to 1.5 to 2 hours per day instead of just 1 hour, and to make that happen, I need some $$$$.
