So Much to Update!
Ice Show:
I had my first practice on Sunday night. The routine is simple, but I have to get the counts down, so that I'm not 1/2 a step behind everyone. Some of the moves are a bit silly (cough*jazzhands*cough), but it's an ice show so that's expected. Our music is an Elvis medley. We've got black A-line skirt costumes with some added fringe on the skirt and headbands with a black feather on one side. I'm not sure how I'm going to get the headband to stay on (we have to bow a few times, spin, and jump). I think I'll end up having to put my hair in a 1/2 ponytail, and use black thread to tie the headband onto my hair. Hopefully that'll be enough to hold it.
Novice MITF test date:
April 19th, 2006. Yikes, that's not far away! I'd better get my butt in gear. I've been doing full run throughs at every practice since Saturday's lesson.
Saturday's Lesson:
I asked Coach K if we were honestly going to put my moves test out in April. She said yes, so we worked on moves. Basically, my patterns/turns are correct, I just need to work on increasing the power/quickness. I hope I'm good enough by April. I haven't failed a moves test yet, and after barely scraping by my intermediate mitf test, I really want to nail the novice test.
Tuesday's Lesson:
We worked on backspin exercises again. I have a new one to add to my repertoire. I have to start in position for a BO pivot, then jump up into the backspin position, and land still spinning. It's very rough. I can do it fine if I jump up, land, and then pull in. But, when I try to pull in in mid-air, I botch the landing. The next exercise was to do a loop jump, pull in in mid-air, and then check out quickly so that I only did a single. It took me a few tries, but I could do that one. Then, we tried double loops. I had one really nice one where I didn't let my hips sink down on the take-off and I kept my L shoulder in front (where it belongs). We also tried pushing my L shoulder forward on the landing to encourage me to stay over my R side better. I think with a little bit of adjustment, these changes will be very helpful. Coach K also wanted to see double flips. I haven't worked on these in a few weeks, so they weren't my best attempts. I didn't have the attack and the quick pull-in that I needed. We did make some progress on lightening my tap-in. Instead of thinking of picking and pulling the skating foot back, I'm supposed to think of stretching the picking leg out behind me, pulling the skating foot back, and then tapping. Ideally, the tap will happen when I'm already jumping up. It helped tremendously with my single. Now I just need some practice time to get the same feeling in the double.
