Thursday's Skate 5/25

I had a lesson for almost an hour today which was a make-up for Coach K missing the last two. (She was having back problems, which is what I suspected.)

I sucked massively.

I had a decent jump day on Tuesday, so of course, I lost everything on Thursday. My double sal was gone, double toe was bad, double loop was cheated, double flip take-off was messed up, and double lutz is always nonexistent. I also found that I've let a lot of little mistakes creep in as I haven't had an intensive jump lesson in awhile.

Coach K and I worked on:

-double sal: I can't drop my R hip and let my R knee turn in prior to take-off. When I succeed in keeping it level until it lifts for take-off, I can do a decent double sal. How often does that happen? Almost never.

-double toe: I still need to straighten my take-off more. Thinking of bringing my skating foot straight back instead of thinking of bring it back toward the picking foot seems to help. Also, putting a bit more pressure on my left shoulder on the take-off seems to help me straighten out.

-double loop: I need to push off of the toe more. I also need to snap harder and quicker into my D position to rotate. And, I can't do floppy arms in the air. They need to stay in and tight until I land.

-double flip: The take-off needs to be straighter. I also need to check as I turn the 3, not after. And, I can't let my leg come up before I pick.

-double lutz: I actually had some good attempts. I chickened out and only did 1.5 revs though b/c I know I can open up and land forward safely. (BAD habit!) But, I did get nice lift.

-bad habits that I need to be aware of and avoid on all jumps: floppy arms, not holding the D rotation postion long enough, pulling my shoulders back, landing toward the heel (I do this only on occasion as a result of pulling my shoulders too far back.)

I sure have a lot to work on.

The good news is that I did a pre-juv. program run through and I was only about 1/2 of a second behind the music at the end. Having Coach K start the music instead of me starting it and running out did make a big difference. The test is on Wed. 5/31. I'm not nervous as this is a pretty easy test for me. As long as I don't do anything completely stupid, I shoud pass easily. This is probably the last test I'll take that'll be easy for me, so I intend to enjoy it.
