A Bit of Consistency
The rundown on yesterday's practice:
Intermediate MITF: Improving. I'm skidding the FO brackets worse than ever, but other than that, things feel ok. Still waiting for greatness though.
Program: Worked on the footwork - trying to make it flow. It's hard to do the bracket-3-bracket b/c I have to do an RFI edge around the corner and then straighten out to do the bracket-3-bracket with arms without changing feet or touching down.
Axel: Still inconsistent. If I go slow, I'm ok. When I try to add speed, I skid and open up in the air. Will need coach's help with this.
2salchow: Very consistent today. I landed my first 3 attempts! I also did a bauer-backward power3-2salchow, and an outside edge spread eagle with left foot leading-LFO 3turn-2salchow. The ones from the spread eagle entrance were a bit cheated, but I was proud just to land on my feet for once. I also did axel-1/2 loop-2salchow. The 2salchows were all cheated, but once again landing on my feet is an improvement. If I could keep the flow through the 1/2 loop, I'd probably be fine. However, I go into the axel slow b/c of the skidding problem I've been having. Then, I lose all momentum on the landing of the 1/2 loop. It's a good combination for me to work on b/c it requires me to control my landings. I sometimes let my L shoulder swing open on landings. Bad skater!
2toeloop: I got an inch of distance today! It's rather sad that that's improvement, but I'll take it. These felt so good. I felt my right knee lift into the jump. I managed a few that weren't even cheated. And, I landed almost all of my attempts on my feet.
2loop: Still cheated. I'm working on getting better bend in the knees on the take-off and springing higher so that I'll have more time to finish the rotations. I also need to snap my hips over faster in the air. Coach has gotten me to do this, but I have yet to do it on my own. I did some really big 2loops that had nice height and air position, but they were still cheated because I rotated slowly.
2flip: These are tricky. I have to pick straight back, pull the skating foot almost next to the picking foot, and transfer my weight over my right side. Some days I can do them really well and finish rotating before I land, other days these are a splatfest. This time, I started out with a splat fest. I think I was expecting to fall because I kept opening my L shoulder on the landing and falling on my L hip. Then, when I focused on keeping my L shoulder slightly in front on the landing, I landed a few.
2lutz: I landed one! And fell on every other attempt. I still get an inside edge at the last moment on the takeoff. Coach will need to look at these.
Spins: I managed a camel-sit-layback-back camel. I need more speed/revolutions in the layback and back camel, but I'm happy just to make it through the whole spin. Flying camels are still not great, but at least I can do recognizable ones now. I've mostly eliminated the salchow like entrance where I was standing almost straight up and jumping off of a BI edge. Now, I try to think of the entrance as a camel spin and push to the toe before I turn over onto the BI edge. Most of the tracings have looked like an outside edge with a toepick mark at the end.
