New Blades + Program Runthrough = Problems
I decided to stop being a baby and do my program with doubles for the first time since getting my new blades. It went pretty much as expected, which means I did a spetacularly poor job. Out of my four big jumping passes, I only landed my double salchow-toeloop. I underrotated and two-footed my double loop, and I popped the double toe and the axel. Oh, and my flying camel stunk. Blah! And to think, just over a week ago, I did my first absolutely perfect runthrough. I feel like I'm right back where I started.
I am glad that I got the new blades though. My jumps feel like they have much more spring, my turns are quicker, and my spins are better (except the layback, but I'm pretty sure that's operator error and not the equipment). Last week I was just trying to keep my feet under me and not kill myself. This week, I'm trying to get the speed, power, and attack back in my skating. I think I just need to get used to the little timing adjustments I've made on the new blades, and I should be fine.
The only skill that's really taking a hit from the new blades is my layback. It's been awful. I thought I was getting it back yesterday, but couldn't manage a decent attempt today in the program. Must do many, many more repetitions until I manage to find the sweet spot again. There is some good news though. I have this crazy notion that I'd like to do a haircutter layback someday, and I finally managed the proper grab twice yesterday. Now, I just have to stay arched back once I grab my foot without dislocating my shoulder. Easier said then done.
